The first Blouse Roumaine prototype is considered to be created starting the 6th century B.C. in Cucuteni culture. The ancient piece was called “ie”. The name derived from Latin “tunicae lineae” which means thin tunic.

The contemporary name of the traditional romanian blouse is actually renamed by Matisse’s painting. La Blouse Roumaine is an oil-on-canvas painting by Henri Matisse from 1940. It measures 92 x 73 cm and is held at the Musée National d’Art Moderne in Paris.
